How Many Pavers per Square Foot?

For the standard 4×8 inch paver, you need 4.5 pavers per square foot. Larger formats need fewer: one 12×12 paver covers exactly one square foot.

The math is 144 square inches per square foot divided by the paver's face area: a 4×8 paver is 32 in², and 144 ÷ 32 = 4.5. Multiply your patio area by the per-square-foot figure and add 10% for edge cuts.

Herringbone and other diagonal patterns waste more along the borders — use 15% there. Buy the whole job from one production batch; paver colors shift between batches.
